Self-reflection

As the upcoming semester approaches, I reflect on my time spent as an intern at URC Urban Planning Sdn. Bhd. I had a wonderful experience as an intern where I felt inspired, and empowered, and I learned something new every day. I learned so much and got so much experience from the moment I walked in on my first day until I left four months later

i.    Don't ever think you are good enough!

Before I did my internship, I felt that I was skilled enough to enter the working life. In fact, I think that I have an advantage in terms of using technology compared to the old staff. However, it was a big mistake. My knowledge is still not enough compared to the experience of those who have worked for more than 10 to 20 years. So then I realize that my knowledge will never be enough. We must always study and learn. And experience is the best teacher we can always learn from.

ii.    Improve all my knowledge and skillset.

My internship has given me a lot of insight into my skill set and increased my self-assurance. It has aided in directing my career goals and will undoubtedly aid me in making future career decisions. I also learned technical information about many aspects of planning. My toolkit was significantly fuller when I finished my internship than when I began. My newfound knowledge will prepare me for life after graduation. My experience has helped me get closer to my objectives, and I'm eager to see what the future holds!

iii.    Connect with your co-worker.

I experienced little solitude because I was one of just two interns chosen. I felt absolutely out of place, like a kid in a crowd of university grads and mature people. I was first unsure about how to communicate with co-workers or even the other intern. But after another day at work, I approached my colleague and started communicating with them frequently. In retrospect, it was one of the better decisions I made throughout my internship because we had developed a pleasant connection, and being able to talk about our projects made me feel less alone. Making connections with co-workers was a fantastic way for me to keep on track with both my work and my studies, and I think that as a result of the overall experience, I now consider one of them to be a true friend.
